Peterson Lexus of Boise
In collaboration with Peterson Lexus, Cushing Terrell designed a renovation and expansion that modernized the automotive dealership’s showroom, customer areas, and service spaces to better serve Boise’s growing market. The project updated a building originally constructed in the 1970s and remodeled several times over the years, bringing the facility into alignment with current Lexus brand standards while creating a more cohesive and elevated customer experience.
The project included a 2,000-square-foot expansion of the existing showroom, the addition of a 2,500-square-foot service department, and an interior remodel of approximately 5,500 square feet of space.
Early in the design process, the team evaluated the existing structure and identified recommended measures to support the new spaces needed and improve the building’s functionality.
A key design decision was to remove the existing canopy at the service drop-off area to make way for additional showroom space and customer service advisor stations. The expanded showroom creates more room for vehicle display while strengthening connections between the showroom, service areas, customer lounge, and offices. Throughout the project, the design team prioritized customer-centered spaces with improved flow, comfort, and privacy, supporting beneficial interactions between guests and staff.
The renovation also introduced a refreshed exterior and interior aesthetic. Updated façade elements, increased window heights, and improved glazing bring in more natural light and give the building a brighter, more contemporary feel. Inside, new finishes, furnishings, and custom cabinetry were carefully selected to create a polished, cohesive environment for both customers and employees. The design balances modern Lexus standards with the realities of the existing structure, resulting in a space that feels both refined and practical.
Supporting infrastructure was upgraded as well. A full electrical evaluation informed improvements to the power system, indoor and outdoor lighting, signage, and low-voltage systems. Branding and signage were brought together in the prominent exterior freestanding blade element that reinforces a strong visual identity for the property.
One of the project’s most significant challenges was maintaining dealership operations throughout construction. The work was phased carefully, beginning with the additions and continuing through the existing showroom and customer-area remodel, allowing Peterson Lexus to remain open with minimal disruption.
